Furikake (Japanese Rice Seasoning)

Japanese umami seasoning with nori, sesame, bonito and soy — sprinkle on everything.

Furikake (Japanese Rice Seasoning)

Ingredients

  • 3 nori sheets, finely cut into small pieces
  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds (mix of white and black)
  • 2 tbsp dried bonito flakes (skip for vegan)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp sea salt

Method

  1. Toast sesame seeds in a dry pan 2 min; cool.
  2. Crumble bonito flakes with your fingers.
  3. Toss nori, sesame, bonito, soy, sugar and salt together.
  4. Store in an airtight jar up to 2 months.

Tips

Sprinkle over rice, eggs, avocado toast, popcorn or roasted vegetables. The umami impact is enormous for such simple ingredients.
