Ingredients
- 4 firm pears, peeled with stalks intact
- 400ml red wine
- 200ml water
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- Zest of 1 orange
Method
- Combine wine, water, honey and spices in a deep pan; bring to a gentle simmer.
- Add pears; poach over low heat 25–30 min, turning occasionally, until just tender.
- Remove pears; reduce poaching liquid by half.
- Serve pears warm or cold with reduced sauce spooned over.
